The Chinese qipao originated in Shanghai. In the period of the Republic of China, Chinese women began to wear these clothes in a traditional style. Modern qipao was born in early twentieth Century, popular in 30s and 40s, is the representative of Chinese women’s clothing. Experts think the last century in 20s is the starting point of the popularity of qipao . Qipao reached its peak in 30s and soon swept from the cradle of Shanghai to all parts of China. As Shanghai has been advocating Western way of life style, the reformed qipao began to appear.
